Community Outreach Programmes
At South Derbyshire Music Centre (SDMC), we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of making music. Our Community Outreach Programmes are designed to inspire people of all ages, remove barriers to music-making and bring high-quality musical experiences into the heart of our local communities.
Through partnerships with schools, community organisations and local groups, we aim to encourage participation, build confidence and help people discover a lifelong love of music.
Bringing Music into the Community
Our outreach work supports children, young people and adults by delivering engaging musical experiences beyond our regular rehearsal programme. Whether introducing complete beginners to an instrument or working with community groups, we are passionate about making music accessible to everyone.
Our Programmes
Blow Your Heart Out – Etwall
Our satellite band at Etwall Primary School provides young brass, woodwind and percussion players with the opportunity to rehearse and perform closer to home. The ensemble offers a welcoming pathway into South Derbyshire Music Centre for children from Etwall and the surrounding villages.
Scouts, Guides and Youth Groups
We work with local Scouts, Guides and youth organisations to deliver fun and interactive music workshops. These sessions introduce young people to a variety of instruments while helping them develop teamwork, confidence and creativity through music.
Community Performances
Our ensembles regularly perform at local events, festivals and community celebrations, bringing live music to audiences across South Derbyshire while providing valuable performance opportunities for our members.
