For more than five decades, South Derbyshire Music Centre has been inspiring children and young people through the joy of making music together. As an independent registered charity, we are proud to provide a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment where every young musician can develop their confidence, skills and passion for music.

More Than Just Music

Our members enjoy performing in concerts, community events and special celebrations throughout the year, giving every young person the opportunity to shine and experience the excitement of performing together.
Opportunities for Everyone
We offer a wide range of instrumental ensembles and choirs for different ages and abilities, including opportunities for complete beginners through to advanced musicians.
Not everyone needs to play an instrument to join us. We welcome young people who love to sing.
Our experienced, fully qualified music team is accredited through the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership, and all staff hold enhanced DBS clearance, ensuring a safe and encouraging environment for every member.
A Community That Cares
SDMC is a place where everyone is welcome. We are committed to making music accessible to all families and aim to keep our activities affordable, with financial assistance available where needed.
Many of our members stay with us for years, growing from beginners into confident performers and even returning as volunteers, helpers and music leaders. It’s this strong sense of community that has made SDMC such a special place for generations of families.

Based at The Pingle Academy, Swadlincote, SDMC welcomes children and young people from across South Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.
